DAY 19 CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK

DAY 19

We woke up when mama called around 8:30 this morning. Mitchell had left me a note saying that he had gone fishing at the dock. We had some breakfast and headed out to see the sand dunes. There were atvs everywhere. We walked over to the beach and the kids loved it. I was freezing....The wind was blowing like crazy. They didn't seem to mind though. We let them play for awhile then we said that's it we have to go... We took a vote and looks like we are going to Crater Lake instead of heading on down the coast.

                                                                Some views on the way

The kids were catching up on their journals on the way.

We stopped at a gas station to get gas but they were out of regular so we decided to go on down the road. We hit road construction and what seemed like a 20 mile hill. Guess what? We ran out of gas... Thad was so mad at himself. I told him that it was a mistake and we had AAA. It would work out. A construction worker came by at the very moment that we ran out. He took our gas can and got some gas from their tank and would not even take any money. I told Thad that we would have to pay it forward. So we got back in the RV and went to the nearest gas station. The gas was $4.84 a gallon. We got it and tried to find a campsite as close to Crater Lake that we can get. We checked at one site but there was nothing. We noticed that our transmission was acting funny so we headed to the next site and found one. They have killer mosquitoes.. I went outside to help Lawson get his bike while Thad and Mitchell got us check in. The mosquitoes were biting me through my clothes. Lawson said forget it lets go back inside. That was even after we had sprayed ourselves. Thad and Mitchell came back running in the RV saying the same thing, that the mosquitoes are killers. They swarmed the screens on the windows. We were kept hostage .  We ate sandwiches and chips and dip. They don't have electric or water because this is a National Park. This is the first night that Thad was homesick for his front porch. Too much family time with nothing to do but look at each other. It was almost funny. I was so glad for 9.00 to get here. We all went to sleep.
