DAY 20
We woke up early to get out of this place. We are sick of mosquitoes and we are ready to see the lake. Thad checked out the transmission and everything seemed fine and it sounded fine as we headed down the road. We were about a mile from the lake when the RV stopped. It would not go in any gear and we were leaking transmission fluid. The ranger was coming by at the exact same time and directed traffic for us. We were in the middle of the road. Luckily, it wasn't a super busy road. I got on the phone to AAA. They were not much help since they wanted me to give them the address of where we needed to be towed. I said I have no idea...HELLO I am not from here. Thank goodness for the droid. I got on the internet and tried to find the closest place that could get our RV fixed the fastest. The ranger was more concerned with getting our RV off the road. So I called the number that he gave me and they said they would be around 2 hours. In the meantime, we had to find out where we are going to stay for the night and how we are going to get there. We found an Inn in the park and the rangers took the kids and I to the lodge while Thad went with the tow truck to Bend, Oregon. The rangers where really nice, they stayed with us until we got in the room. The rooms where overpriced crap. No phones, tvs, microwaves, or fridge and they cost $150 a night. They were even going to make us get 2 rooms because there were so many of us, but they didn't have but 1 room ready when we checked in and we never went back up for the other room. We had the computer, so we watched a movie and then walked over to the restaurant to get some pizza and then we headed back to the room to wait for Thad to get back. The kids played in the snow on the way back but the mosquitoes were still everywhere. It was around 6.00 before he made it back with a rented tahoe.. I am not sure who was happier to see who.. He said he was ready for family time again. The ride was so boring and he really missed us.. I told the kids that I was really proud of them because no one complained and they all made the best of a bad situation. We are determined not to let this ruin our vacation at least we are riding in style. We are going to all take a shower and then watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and then go to bed.
Sorry there are no pictures today but we didn't get to see anything. Goodnight
